Walking, Wine & Tapas I

Walking, Wine & Tapas

Parcent in the early morning sun
Day 1 Saturday - Arrival

A friendly face to welcome you at the airport and transfer you to your accommodation. A little free time to unpack and settle in followed by a late afternoon BBQ with your hosts.
Day 2 Sunday - Parcent to Murla

We'll start the week with a beautiful circular walk through farmland and forests to the picturesque village of Murla. Although a sleepy village now it was once the thriving capital of Vall de Pop containing the main watchtower for the whole area. It has the oldest church in the Valencian region from the 14th century and boasts of having the best Pelota players in the country.

Stats: approx. 10km, negligible ascent.

We return to Parcent for Paella and Sangria at L'Eras (said to be the best Paella around).

Time for a quick stroll around Parcent then back for an early night ready to....

Day 3 Monday – Escape from it all

We head over to the timeless Castell de  Castells today. A totally tranquil area surrounded by mountains with stunning inland vistas. We are going to take in two short walks, one to the World Heritage Site to see the ancient cave painting, said to be over 5,000 years old. The other to the area's famous Rock Arches, spectacular formations carved out of the rock. With fabulous views we stop here for lunch before heading back.

Stats: 11km

We conclude the day with an excursion to Parcents own prestigious Bodega for an evening of wine tasting and tapas.
Day 4  Tuesday – Picturesque Villages

Lliber is a truly beautiful village with wonderful cobbled streets and windows adorned with flowers. Once again we'll walk through forests and farmlands this time to another picturesque village; Senija. It has a lovely square where we'll stop for our pack lunches, then return through the expansive grape vines with amazing views of the Jalon Valley.

Stats 11.8km with an optional 64m ascent to the cross.

A free evening with transport provided if you wish to venture out and try one of the local restaurants.

We can provide you with maps and GPS info on points of interest and pick you up at a designated time and place.
Day 5 Wednesday – Day off

We will provide transportation to one of the coastal areas (probably too cold to swim but you never know!), or inland if you prefer.

Playa del Moraig
Day 6 Thursday – The Almond Blossom Walk

Always a beautiful walk at any time of year but especially in February when the whole valley turns pink and white from the almond blossom and it's delicate fragrance fill the air. If the heady scents of orange blossom is more your thing then end of March and April is you time.
The trail leads into historical Jalon with it's world famous wine production, following the "route of the raisins" around the Riu Raus, the arched fronted buildings used for scalding and drying the grapes. It was a highly lucrative business that transformed towns like Jalon in the 18th and 19th centuries.

Stats: 10.8km

Day 7 Friday – The Villages of Vall de Laguar

We drive up high into the cherry growing area of Vall de Laguar to  begin today's walk with breathtaking views across the valleys and out to sea. We'll take in a historical trip to the Fontilles Sanatorium, a fascinating self contained village surrounded by a 3.5km wall originally opened in 1909 to prevent the spread of leprosy but is now used for palliative care and continued research. We'll continue through the forests to the remaining villages, namely Campell, Fleix and Benimaurell, each with it's own special charm.

Stats: 10.5km

Home for a clean-up then back with your hosts for your farewell evening of more Tapas, Paella, wine and music.

Day 8 - Return transport to the airport and goodbyes.
This is a sample week in which grades, distances and ascents can all be increased or decreased according to your groups’ preference. Likewise because we are independent we are able to add personal touches to your holiday, perhaps less/more trips to Bodegas, more time spent in the villages or arrange for you to visit a particular place.
